You’ve come a long way.
We’re now at the end of the BATON framework.
We decided our business niche in B, Business.
Then built out our following in A, Audience.
Brought them into our newsletter in T, Tribe.
Created and sold digital products in O, Offer.
And now arrived at N, Network.
Network is all about scaling, automating and taking our business to the next level.
It’s important you only apply the lessons and strategies here after your basic Offer is up and running and consistently generating revenue.
Trying to scale before building a solid foundation doesn’t work. You’ll just be scaling something that doesn’t work, building a higher and higher tower on unstable foundations.
If your business isn’t up and running and generating revenue therefore I recommend you turn around at this point. Not because I’m gatekeeping but because I don’t want you getting distracted by the promises of scale when you haven’t yet got the basics in place.
Network is about creating network effects within our business.
As we build more business assets (audiences, products, channels etc.) they each help one another. Every added asset adds value to the other business assets around it.
For example if my basic business is X → Newsletter → Digital Products I could add LinkedIn as a new audience.
Doing so would complement the other parts of the business.
Growing on LinkedIn let’s me cross post and promote between X and LinkedIn. It opens up a new traffic channel for my newsletter. And it becomes another place to talk about my digital products.
All individual parts of the business get stronger as I add more assets in.
Another example would be starting again from X → Newsletter → Digital Products but this time I add in Service Offers in addition to the digital products.
This is another form of scaling where the other elements of the business also benefit. For example I can start to post lessons I’ve learned from providing services onto Twitter. I can start to discuss service case studies in my newsletter. I can begin to start to bundle services as part of my product offering to increase the value.
