Another powerful content type is “build in public” material.
Humans love stories. And we love to see behind the scenes.
Building in public satisfies these urges by showing our Audience what we’re up to on the day to day.
These people are your customers and soon to be customers and you’re showing them what you’re building for them.
This sort of content also helps humanise you and your business. They’ll see not just the glitzy marketing messages but also all the blood sweat and tears that went into building the product.
Instead of keeping everything secret and only posting carefully curated updates, you’ll share wins, mistakes, lessons learned, and behind-the-scenes progress with transparency.
Hell, people prefer the setbacks and mistakes! The “oh everything is going great” content is boring!
Some basic guidelines for building in public:
Share both successes and failures. Be vulnerable and real. Don’t whinge and whine about how hard everything is but instead be professional about setbacks.
Engage with your audience and have conversations. Don't just broadcast. Ditto for all content really.
Take feedback and act on it. Show how you are listening to your audience and building their suggestions into your building.
What sort of things should you be posting about then? Well - that’s nice and easy. As you work through this course you are naturally trying new things, picking up new skills and seeing what works.
Talk about this with your following!
There are also community challenges and suggestions to share as you work through this course. As well as sharing in the community here go ahead and share with people publicly.
Finally wins and milestones. Got your first 100 followers? Post about it and thank them for following you. Made your first sale? Celebrate that with the people who helped make it happen.
